Poinsettias

Are you looking for that perfect holiday gift idea? Well Palisade Greenhouse is back with beautiful poinsettias that will attract customers to your shop or fill those empty spaces in your customers homes with bright, holiday color. For 2008, we are planning on growing a limited number of poinsettias in two sizes and colors.

Back by popular demand is the "Bush Poinsettia," a large, bush-shaped plant measuring up to 36" tall by 36" wide, planted in a 14" pot and covered in a multitude of colorful bracts. This attention getting poinsettia is ideal for large rooms, lobbies or entryways and could even substitute as a Christmas tree!  We will be growing these in either traditional red or white.

PGI's other product will be the Topiary Poinsettia. Planted in an 8" pot, the plant will be trimmed as a small topiary. Around the base will be planted a splash of Diamond Frost Euphorbia that covers the base of the poinsettia with showers of tiny, white flowers that look like snow crystals. For those who wish to enhance the plant with their own decorations, the Diamond Frost can be easily trimmed back or removed so customers can place their own decorations at the base for a unique, custom look. These topiaries are ideal for smaller spaces, table decorations or centerpieces or can be arranged beautifully in large displays. They come in red only with the white euphorbia.

Since we begin growing these plants in June to have them full and ready by Thanksgiving, it's never too early to let us know what you would like to order. Call now, or look for our order sheet to arrive in the mail this summer. An order form will be automatically sent to all previous purchasers from the 2007 season. But don't delay, supplies are limited!

Myths concerning Poinsettias and Tips for Proper Care

  • Poinsettias are not poisonous to pets or children. While we certainly do not encourage eating them or feeding them to your pet, extensive research has shown that poinsettia plants are not toxic to humans or pets, even when consumed in large quantities. Click here to learn more about this subject.
  • You do not have to place a poinsettia plant under a box or in a dark closet to get it to bloom! Poinsettias are living plants. Like any living plant, they always need regular light and water. Water them when the top of the soil feels a little dry. If the pot is covered with a decorative pot cover of some kind, make sure the excess water can drain away. Poinsettias will keep their best color if kept at temperatures from about 60 - 70 degrees F. Do not allow them to be exposed to freezing temperatures. Do not place them directly in an outside doorway or too close to a window. Make sure they have adequate light each day.
